Transitioning to Velo-Nation

What is Velo-Nation?

Over the past year, we’ve started to transition into offering more complete training options for those that are looking specifically for long term development strategies with our Hitting, Throwing, and Strength and Conditioning programs in an environment they can train with their peers, stay engaged, and constantly track results.

Strategies that include increasing raw athleticism, strength, power output, as well as building the skills necessary to compete on a baseball field at a high level in three month or longer increments.

When talking about long term development we think about consistency in training, availability to different training tools, and the ability to track progress over time. In our program players will have unlimited access to the programs they are signed up for with our guidance and structure for them to actually train the way they should be training.

For example, we know that there has to be a level of functional fitness available in each athlete to perform, and starting with baseline strength and mobility assessments by our trainers helps us figure out exactly what the athlete needs to focus on long term, not only in the weight room, but potential drill series to cater to their stability levels, rotational power, flexibility and more. We program our warm ups and mobility work to address basic issues, but also offer a Strength and Conditioning program that can be coupled with either Hitting, Throwing, or both.

Velo-Nation Hitting

In our Velo-Nation Hitting Program, players will get baseline testing with HitTrax and Blast Motion in order to be able to track progress and results with objective information. Players 11 to 14 will be grouped together, while HS and College players will be grouped together. Players will start with a Dynamic warm up and mobility work, move on to constraint led drill work, and then navigate into more free moving drill work with either a form of front toss or normal batting practice, and then finally move on to machine work to simulate live pitching, or actual live pitching depending on the season and the pitchers that are available. Most players who are participating are training 3 – 6 days per week. Depending on the season these group sizes will range from 4 – 8 for 90 minute sessions.

Velo-Nation Throwing

This is probably the biggest question mark that comes up about our program because it is so different than traditional “pitching lessons” or anything of the sort. Players will work with a throwing consultant who will help program their days for them. We typically require AT LEAST three days per week commitment, but the complete commitment is 6 days per week. Players will go through an on-boarding process that will not only teach them the program, the warms ups, the drills, and the recovery, but also an on-ramp period that will prepare their body to be able to build velocity safely and effectively. While also preparing them for mound work to work on their pitches for the upcoming season if they are a pitcher. However, this program is NOT just for pitchers, while we do build out and schedule, mound blending days, bullpen days and days to throw live to hitters for the pitchers, this program is great for all positions. Outfielders who are looking to showoff their arm at showcases, catchers who are looking to improve their pop-time, and infielders who want to sling it across it the infield. These programs typically run about 45 minutes depending on the day and how much on-boarding the player has done to learn the movements and exercises.

Strength and Conditioning

Our Strength and Conditioning program is designed to prevent injury, increase power output, and provide a competitive and high intensity culture where players can challenge each other to be the best versions of themselves. Most players who lift and train with us train 3 – 5 days per week. These workouts take anywhere from 45 min to 1 hour long and are supervised by a strength coach. All players start with a mobility and strength evaluation before we begin training.

Culture

The culture of Velo-nation has grown into something that is hard to replicate. Players root for each other across all ages to constantly hit new “PR’s” (Personal Records), the older more advanced players are able to teach the newer players different drills and pass the torch so to speak. The competition that is created with leaderboards showing who the very best is, and how close you are to that mark has proven to be extremely effective in keeping players engaged and pushing themselves.

Scheduling

All scheduling is done through our online system, upperhand which can be found in our login page or by clicking the link below. If you do not already have an account you will need to register for one before signing in. You will then select the memberships tab and select which membership(s) you would like to participate in. Within a few hours, the programs you registered for will begin to populate into your account under the “my schedule” tab where you will be able to schedule by selecting “scheduling remaining ‘x’ amount

As of now you do not need to schedule for your throwing program but rather can piggy back that before or after your hitting/lifting sessions.
